In today’s world, people are born free because they have tremendous power over their own reality. But when you look at the way most people live their lives, it’s as if they are shackled to a false belief structure. They have all these imaginary lines and limitations that they have drawn for themselves. Things like who they can and cannot be, what they are and what they’re not, where they can go and what’s off-limits.

Believe it or not, all of us actively shape and create our own realities. Our minds make us the masters of our reality. It doesn’t matter whether you accept that or not. It doesn’t matter whether you are aware of this or not. It’s still the absolute truth and reality. In fact, just through the daily operations of your mind and emotions, you master and edit your reality daily.

What’s the problem? Well, most of us don’t claim this inner power that we possess. We live our lives based on obligations and commitments. That’s right. We try to be the kind of people our parents expect us to be. We try to live our lives based on other people’s expectations. We also get used to certain customs and traditions. Maybe it’s part of our social culture. Perhaps it’s part of our little group or family dynamic. Whatever the case may be, unless we choose to open our eyes and look within, we will continue to do things the same way as the people we hang out with. Birds of a feather flock together indeed.

We also turn our backs on our tremendous spiritual power to shape our reality by sticking close to traditional comforts. Just because something has been done the same way for hundreds of years doesn’t necessarily mean that you should do the same. Just because there is such a thing as conventional wisdom doesn’t mean that it’s the only type of wisdom applicable to you.

Human beings are walking around wearing invisible chains because of bad mental, emotional, and physical habits. We have as a society become distracted, disconnected, and asleep at the wheel. It appears that no matter how hard you try to change things or turn things around, your habits and comfort zones keep pulling you back. It’s as if you only need to see or feel certain things, and all others no longer matter, and you start acting in an almost automatic way. We fear looking stupid. We believe that others are smarter and more capable than us. We feel inferior and lack self-confidence. Where did these fears and traits come from if most of us started with a relatively blank slate when born?

Habits are an undeniably powerful part of life, and we are all creatures of habit. If you can just take a few minutes to ponder, you’ll realize that the direct reflection of your daily habits has been very fervent in determining the state and quality of your entire life. Habits can hinder your progress in life, or they can also help to propel you forward to greater success on the path you are on.
